Product Description: We discovered this intricately detailed backgammon game in a Turkish bazaar and were so impressed by its quality and design, we tracked down the craftsmen who made it. Painstakingly made by hand, the game is assembled with quality hand-cut woods and shimmering mother of pearl in intricate settings. Skilled woodworkers craft the board using a variety of methods, including inlaying and pasting, with a combination of beech, mahogany, orange, walnut, and rose wood. Only natural colors are used in this beautiful, complicated pattern. The set can be used for actual play or as a striking accent piece on a coffee table or bar. A game of both skill and luck, backgammon dates back to Mesopotamian culture around 3,000 B.C. The revers e side of the board can be used for checkers. The beech wood-framed set folds compactly for storage. Includes handmade playing pieces and instructions.
